Curtain Call CC--Act 15

I LOVE colour challenges because they compel me to use colours I never would have thought of pairing on my own, and I use them as a further challenge to rumage through my stash of scraps to match up the colours as closely as possible.  When I saw this floral image that inspired Curtain Call's Act 15 colour challenge, I had to include a flower on my card too:

I happened to look up and see this fake flower in an arrangement on the shelf near my craft table . . .

. . . and I figured, 'Why  not use it on a card?'  So I took it apart (to flatten it a tad) and used a brad to re-attach it.  I found this great button in my stash too!

Card base looks more yellow in the photo, but is much more orange IRL.

I know the colour challenge calls for WHITE, but since the flower I chose had a more creamy tint, I stuck with it for the sentiment strip too.  CREAM is a shade of WHITE right?  Leaf punch is EK Success.

That's it for tonight--gonna go finish watching the Grammys--Michael Jackson tribute on right now--pretty great!
Thanks 4 your time!

Embellish Colour Challenge w/ RIBBON!!!

Super excited when I saw Embellish Mag's new colour challenge includes ribbon!!!  Ever since I got into card-making this fall, I've become a ribbon hoarder.  I really have a hard time not including ribbon on my cards and even harder time not buying any more ribbon!!

So without further ado, here's the great colour combo--Turquoise, Brown & Pink:

And here's the card I created:

I love the big grosgrain ribbon--I repurposed it from a gift I received (I think a pair of cozy PJs my DH bought me).  The glittery card base is DCWV; the sentiment is Inkadinkado, which I embossed with clear embossing powder; the damask stamp is Kimberly Poloson by Fiskars stamped with SU! Chocolate Chip; jewel is Studio 18.

Thanks 4 your time!  Enjoy the rest of your weeked!!

Cards Blog Challenge--Squares

My 3 year old spent the day at grandma and grandpa's house today, so I got a chance to pump out a few cards today--yay for me!  One of those was for the current Cards Blog Challenge which asked us to use squares on our card.

I had my new square houndstooth stamp on my desk (which I picked up for 33 cents at Michaels!) . . .

. . .so I just stamped it repeatedly with Versamark ink onto various pieces of scrap cardstock.  Eventually, I put the following window card together with just 3 squares.  The sentiment is handwritten.  The heart is repurposed from a commercial Christmas card I received.

Inside of the card reveals just the middle house base:

My first "Curtain Call"

I came across Stacey's Stamping Stage blog yesterday by way of blog-hopping (once I start I'm always overwhelmed with how many talented papercrafters are out there!!!)  Any way--she's currently holding her Curtain Call Color Challenge: Act 14.  As an English teacher--I just love her metaphors!!  I was drawn to her color combo and decided to play.

I don't own any SU! cardstock, so I tried to match up the colours with the scraps and products I do have.  Here's the full card:

No time right now to post supplies; let me know if you want any details.

Thanks 4 your time!

Day #333 Green, Glitter & Grosgrain

It's Day #333 over at 365 Cards and the challenge is to use 3Gs--Green, Glitter and Grosgrain.  I just used some grosgrain ribbon yesterday on a card--and I loved the colour of it so much that I knew I wanted to pair it up with some green today for this challenge!!

Very CAS card to make--green (1) glitter(2) is Martha Stewart; patterned paper is from a Dollar Store; the rub-on sentiment is WeRMemory Keepers; and the ribbon (3) is from Michaels.

And here's the card I mentioned that I made yesterday with this same ribbon.  I'm adding it to the "Trash" challenge over at Dawn's blog here.  I already submitted one card for it (Baby Boy), and I'm just adding this Baby Girl one to that same post.  The little cut-out is from the packaging of a set of onesies I got for my baby boy Caden.

I definitely did a better job with the ribbon tying on the "Many Thanks" card!!
Okay--off to do another post for another challenge--I just can't stop with these challenges ;)

Thanks 4 your time!

Welcome Baby card (2 challenges)

I've got a card today that I'm submitting for two challenges.
365 Cards Day #330 Super Sketchy Sunday:

and Dawn's Inspire Me Challenge #5 asks us to use a piece of "trash"

I had part of this packaging that I got with a set of onesies I received as a gift for my little guy several months ago:

The images of the onesies screamed for me to not toss it, so it's been sitting on my craft table for a while.  When I saw Dawn's challenge, I knew I had to use them.  I made a "boy" coloured card, but since I still have more onesies to cut out, I'm planning to make a "girl" card too [I'll edit my post and add it if I get some time]!

So here's my card.  I popped up the onesies with foam dimensionals.  Oh yeah, the ribbon is repurposed for a gift too!!  That's 2 pieces of TRASH!!

Paper: Recollections blue and white cardstock; Bazzill Kraft  Stamps: Heidi Grace   Ink: SU! Not so Navy and Chocolate Chip; Distress Ink Walnut Stain   OtherFiskars border punch; repurposed ribbon; foam dimensionals

Edit--(addition): Here's the Baby girl card I made--with just one onesie this time.

Thanks 4 your time!  Going to go make my son some lunch now!

EBTKS Sketch #3 Challenge

Okay, so the current EBTKS Sketch Challenge stumped me for a while.  I came up with one card, but I am not very happy with it (I tried to move out of my comfort zone . . . and let's just say I prefer my comfort zone).  Soooo . . .  I made another card that's more my style, I think.  Regardless, I'm posting both.

Here's the sketch (I rotated the sketch for each of my cards):

Here's the first card I made and am not so happy with (Sympathy card):

I used some coordinating patterned paper from a pack I got last spring (lost the cover page, so can't remember the company).  I added some Stickles (which I've never really used) to the waves; here's a closer look:

Then, I wanted to make a happier card and I got to play with my new Martha Stewart pattern stamps!  This is SO much more my style and took less time to make:

Supplies: Studio G sentiment; SU! Chocolate Chip ink; American Crafts patterned paper (cut out flowers); Darice jewels.

Thanks 4 your time!

Day 327 Rhyme Time

Just a quick post before I go pick up my son at pre-school.  Today's challenge over at 365 Cards was to make our sentiment rhyme.  I generated mine on the computer and like it so much that I think I'm going to design a whack load of sentiments on the computer and print them off for future use.

Here's my card:

The inside is lined with white paper and has "Congratulations" in blue ink in the centre.
Perfect for a new baby boy!!

Thanks 4 your time!

"Beat the Winter Blahs" with Flowers!!

Living in the great White North myself--I jumped on Virginia's "Beat the Winter Blahs" challenge she's got going over on her blog.  Although Southern Ontario has had a very mild winter so far, I'm already anticipating Spring--so her challenge really got me thinking about Spring flowers!  I made 3 cards for the challenge since the flower ideas kept blooming--heehee--pun intended!

Her rules are: "create a card/page/project to cheer some one special up in the winter. However, the creation has to have a WOW factor, meaning that it will have a special feature. It can be a special/new technique, color combo, unique embellishment or an original design...anything your heart desires!"

Card #1--Flowers and Bling

Bazzill Kraft cardstock; ? patterned paper; scrap chocolate and white cardstock; Heidi Grace polka dot border stamp; Versamark Ink; Martha Stewart rub-on sentiment; Cricut Storybook cartridge Marquee cut; Prima flowers; Darice jewels

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Card #2--Dawn McVey's Vintage paper button flower technique (get tutorial here)

Recollections cream cardstock; scrap of red strip; TPC Studio Christmas Glamour stamp (diamond shapes) stamped in SU!  Chocolate Chip and Ruby Red and Portafolia aqua blue; Michaels `wishing you joy` stamp; vintage paper (literally ripped out of an old book) cut with Cricut Storybook cartridge scallop shape; button; jute

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Card #3--Flower shaped

Card base cut with Cricut Storybook cartridge (2 flowers cut and then stitched together on the left side); American Crafts patterned flower paper; Heidi Grace sentiment in SU! Not so Navy stamped on Bazzill Kraft cardstock; 3D Peel-offs silver outline stickers; white gel pen faux stitching

You can see the shine of the silver petals here:

Pheew--lots of cards, but I just couldn`t stop making them.  Thanks for the challenge Virginia!

Thanks 4 your time!!

1 card--2 challenges

Got a chance to squeeze in this card today--thanks to the card recipe for Day #326 over at 365 Cards
Here are the ingredients:
  • 4.25x5.5 card
  • 4x4 piece of patterned paper
  • 2x2 piece of patterned paper
  • 3 buttons
  • 1 ribbon
  • sentiment
Now--I think I've cheated a little bit ;)  In the bag of buttons I recently purchased at Michaels, there were these cloudy glass beads--so I've used two beads as buttons.  You could techniquely use them for a button on a thin sweater cuff or something.

The card also works for the challenge over at Practical Scrappers which is to use Embossing (including pre-embossed paper).

Any way, here's my card (sorry about the lighting--the 3 cards I photographed right before this were great--I really think my camera is tempermental):

A closer look.  My bow turned out to only have one loop and I sort of liked the look of it:

Supplies:
Paper: Recollections; Core-dinations (sanded embossed paper); Basic Grey Wisteria collection   Stamp: Studio G  Ink: Colorbox Frost White; Distress Ink Walnut stain  Other: Michaels Celebrate It ribbon; foam adhesive; jute; white thread (stitching)

Thanks 4 your time!!

Embellish Magazine--Color Challenge

Some of you may already know that PURPLE is my new favourite colour--fell in love with it this summer when I found that dress I'm wearing in my family photo in the sidebar --> . . . so, I was excited to find Embellish Magazine's new colour challenge, which includes purple, chocolate and kraft.

I also finally got my hands on some Bazzill kraft cardstock
(my local store had been sold out for a while), so I jumped on this challenge and actually made 2 cards!!
The challenge also requires us to use stripes on our creation--that stumped me for a while, until I remembered to dig out some patterned vellum I've had for years (no clue where I got it either it's been that long!!). So, my stripes are on the card, but they're not a primary feature.

Here are the two cards--not sure which one I like most?!

I also finally invested in some Versamark Ink--how did I ever live without it??  I think it's my new favourite product--you'll be seeing it a lot in my future creations ;)  Here's a close up of both cards with supply lists . . .

Paper: Bazzill Kraft cardstock; Recollections purple and white cardstock; chocolate (scrap); vellum (unknown)   Stamps: Studio G Leaf flourish; Inkadinkado sentiment; Heidi Grace dot border   Ink: Versamark Ink; Colorbox Dark Brown, Heliotrope & Alabaster; Distress Ink Walnut Stain  Other: MM brad; repurposed ribbon; EK Success border punch; white thread; dimensional adhesive

365 Cards--Day 317 Crazy Eight

So 365 Cards followers . . . did you think I fell off the face of the planet?  Well, I didn't ;)
I've been working on some other stuff, and since my crafting resolution was to get organized and get caught up on scrapbooking, well, that's just left little time for 365's daily challenges . . .

So . . . this is my first 365 challenge of 2010!!  Day 317 "Crazy Eight" calls for using eight colours on our card.  I just got this houndstooth stamp in the clearance bin at Michaels for 33 cents!!    It's just a small square stamp--so I'm still practicing with lining it up correctly to create a flawless patterned background. I'm giving this card to my GF who's visiting from British Columbia next week--it's always a "happy day" when I get to see her!!

Here's my card (sorry the photo is not very focused):

8 colours are: a few shades of purple, lime green, aqua, yellow, pink, teal, cream and tan (inked edges of scallop)

Also, since I did say I've been catching up on scrapbooking layouts--here's one I just finished tonight.  I'm thinking I need to add something more, but I can't figure it out.  Any suggestions??

Thanks 4 your time!  I hope I can participate in 365 cards more often!!
